Rafael Nadal eyes Mubadala World Tennis Championship crown in December

The 2013 ATP Tour season of world number one Rafael Nadal has ended earlier this month at the ATP World Tour Finals in London where he finished runner-up. However, the Spaniard is already raring to compete once more and he’s now eyeing to win the upcoming Mubadala World Tennis Championship, an exhibition event that takes place from December 26 to 28 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“I love playing in Abu Dhabi as it gives me the chance to test myself again after the off season. I’ve won there twice and I am definitely hoping to make it lucky number three this year,” Nadal was quoted as saying.

Nadal is a two-time champion of this exhibition event. He missed the event last year since he’s still recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for seven months.

“This season has been one of my greatest achievements – coming back from injury to win two Grand Slams, regaining the world number one spot and finishing the season there has been incredible. Now it’s time to relax and prepare for the new season.”

Nadal ended the year with a 75-7 win loss record which saw him win a total of ten titles including two Grand Slam crowns (French Open, US Open) and five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles (Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, Montreal and Cincinnati).
