Rafael Nadal officially secures year-end number one ranking

Rafael Nadal has officially clinched the year-end number one ranking after winning his second match at the ATP World Tour Finals. The Spaniard defeated Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland 7-6, 7-6.

The victory means that erstwhile two-time defending year-end number one player Novak Djokovic will have no chance to overtake Rafael Nadal even if he successfully defends the ATP World Tour Finals title. The Serbian will need to win the title in London and his two matches at the upcoming Davis Cup final against Czech Republic to clinch the number one title, provided that Nadal will not win more than one match at the ATP World Tour Finals.

Nadal’s straight sets win over Wawrinka means he secured a semifinal berth at the ATP World Tour Finals.
