Richard Gasquet teams up with new coach Bruguera for 2014 season

World number nine Richard Gasquet of France has signed up a new coach in time for the 2014 season. According to reports, the Frenchman has signed up two-time French Open champion Sergi Bruguera to become his new coach starting February 2014. Bruguera will be teaming up with Sebastien Grosjean in coaching the tennis star.

“It’s not easy to find a coach. I had been thinking about four or five names but a few were already taken. I wanted to continue working with a foreigner,” said Gasquet in an interview with French sports daily L’Equipe.

“I talked a lot with Sebastien and he told me that he knows Sergi Bruguera well. He has a lot of experience at a high
level. He’s easy going and intelligent. I think it’s a good choice. He will be with me from February on,” he added.

Bruguera, a former world number three, won 14 titles which included the aforementioned two Grand Slam titles at Roland Garros.

Gasquet was left without a coach prior to his final match at the ATP World Tour Finals after his former coach, Riccardo Piatti opted to leave for pesonal reasons. Gasquet ended the season at number 9 with three titles won during the 2013 season and a semifinal run at the US Open.
