Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic says Davis Cup participation is highlight of budding career

World number 117 Dusan Lajovic of Serbia said that he’s looking forward to his Davis Cup match against world number six Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic and hopes to learn from the experience whether he wins or loses.

World number two Novak Djokovic already gave Serbia a 1-0 lead after he defeated Radek Stepanek in the first rubber match. Lajovic was a late replacement after former top 10 Janko Tipsarevic had to pull out due to injury.

“I’d much rather be the star of the final press conference on Sunday because this is going to be the biggest weekend of my career,” the 23-year old said. ”I was very excited when I got the news this morning and Djokovic’s advice before the tie starts will be priceless, just being around him is a huge incentive to work harder than ever.”

The doubles partnership of Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac will face Jan Hajek and Lukas Rosol on Saturday on what is perceived to be a very lucrative match that will determine the championship.

“We are certainly looking at that option because one of Djokovic’s strengths is the ability to adapt to any situation,” said Serbia team captain Bogdan Obradovic.

“But we will make that decision after Friday’s singles, depending on the result and how the players feel.”
