Stanislas Wawrinka to compete with the best at Mubadala World Tennis Championship

World number eight Stanislas Wawrinka is scheduled to compete with the best tennis players in the world at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi next month.

Wawrinka had a stellar 2013 season which catapulted him in the world’s top eight and he qualified for the first time at the ATP World Tour Finals in London where he reached the semifinals.

Wawrinka will face third-ranked David Ferrer of Spain in his opening match at the December 26 to 28 event.

“I have achieved many things this year that I am very proud of and I hope to continue this momentum through to Abu Dhabi in December and into the 2014 season. The line-up in Abu Dhabi this year is really strong and after the season I’ve had it seemed like the ideal time for me to play the tournament again. We’ll all be looking to see where we stand against each other after the off season,” the Swiss player was quoted as saying.

Other players who have confirmed participation at the Abu Dhabi event are No. 1 Rafael Nadal, defending champion Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer and Andy Murray.
