Stanislas Wawrinka: “I think that I deserve where I am”

Swiss number two Stanislas Wawrinka said that his impressive performance this season has earned him a place among the elite. This was evidenced when he qualified for the first time at the ATP World Tour Finals in London where he made it all the way to the semifinals.

“I feel I am at my place,” said Wawrinka. “I think that I deserve where I am and what I got this year.”

“For me the year means a lot. It has been an amazing year. I didn’t expect to play well all year,” he added. “I didn’t expect to be here at the end of the year, to play the semi-finals. This gives me a lot of confidence for next year.

“I still think that I can improve. I just need to find the way to do it for next year.”

When asked about his thoughts about having to Swiss players in the world’s top ten (the other one being Roger Federer), Wawrinka said: ”About Switzerland, I think it’s amazing to have two Top 10 players, for sure,” said Wawrinka. “Roger has been there since so long, so it was more about me. But I think it’s great for Swiss tennis, for Switzerland.”
