Andy Murray to miss BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony this weekend

World number four Andy Murray won’t be able to attend the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in Leeds this weekend. The tennis superstar is currently at his training base in Miami and is working his back to full fitness.

Murray has been tipped to win the award after he ended Britain’s 77-year long wait for a male singles champion at Wimbledon last July.

Even though he won’t be there at the event physically, Murray will still become a part of the show via a live feed/link from his training camp in Miami.

“We are of course disappointed that Andy Murray cannot be in Leeds in person but we are very much looking forward to him joining us live on the night via link-up,” said a BBC spokesperson.

“We’re looking forward to a fantastic night celebrating the 60th Sports Personality, with many former winners and some of the world’s biggest stars attending.”

Murray placed third last year in the event but his outstanding feat this season has made him a heavy favorite to win the award.

There are 10 sports personalities vying for the award.
