The city of Bucharest in Romania will be taking over the Budapest WTA event starting the 2014 season. The Budapest Grand Prix, held annually in Budapest, Hungary from 1993 is usually played on outdoor claycourts.
The Bucharest tennis event will be held from July 8 and 14 meaning it follows after the Wimbledon tournament.
Romania’s number one player Simona Halep won the Budapest event in 2013, one of her six titles during a phenomenal 2013 season which saw her ranking climb to a record high 11th in the world.
