World number three David Ferrer marches on at the 2013 Mubadala World Tennis Championship after the Spaniard swept past Swiss world number eight Stanislas Wawrinka 7-5, 6-1 on Thursday.
Ferrer was pleased with his performance, stating that it is “nice to have won the first match of the season.”
The win propelled Ferrer to the semifinals of this exhibition tennis event and will face compatriot and world number one Rafael Nadal on Friday.
The prize money for the 2013 Mubadala World tennis Championship is $250,000.
