Former top 15 player Aravane Rezai of France will be using her protected ranking in order to participate at the Australian Open 2014 qualifying tournament. The Frenchwoman needed to avail of this since she’s currently ranked 519th in the world.
The 26-year old has not participated in any tournament since losing in her first round match at Wimbledon qualifying. She will be using her protected ranking of number 183 to get a shot to make it in Melbourne.
Rezai has had high profile wins in her career versus Venus Williams, Justine Henin, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Jelena Jankovic, Caroline Wozniacki, Dinara Safina and Marion Bartoli. She reached her career high ranking of number 15 back in October 2010.
