Maria Kirilenko pulls out of Australian Open 2014

Russian world number 19 Maria Kirilenko has pulled out of the Australian Open 2014 which will take place in the middle of January.

The development was a surprise considering that Kirilenko has crucial points to defend in the Grand Slam event. She reached the fourth round in Melbourne in 2013. The tennis star has yet to specify the details of her injuries.

“My #adidas #stellaMcCartney #barricade #australian open dress. Unfor(tunately) I skip this tournament because of my injury,” the Russian stated in her official Twitter account after revealing what would have been her outfit in Melbourne.

Kirilenko reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open back in 2010, her best finish at this event.
