Maria Sharapova on course to Brisbane International 2014 return

World number four Maria Sharapova is still on course to make her competitive tennis comeback at the Brisbane International which begins on December 29.

The Russian tennis superstar has been dealing with a right shoulder injury for the past few months and only competed in one match since her shock second round loss at Wimbledon. That match led to an opening round loss in Cincinnati last August. She recently competed against Ana Ivanovic in Bogota, Colombia last week in an exhibition match.

Sharapova recently guested on the popular Ellen DeGeneres show where she said she doesn’t have any idea whether grunting helps her during her matches.

“I’m not sure what it does,” Sharapova joked. “I still to this day don’t really know. Because once you start playing, you just start going into this automatic rhythm.”
