Nadal’s biggest 2014 challenge according to uncle/coach: Win Australian Open

Toni Nadal, the uncle and coach of world number one Rafael Nadal, said that the biggest challenge for his nephew in the upcoming 2014 season is to win the Australian Open title.

Nadal missed the Australian Open 2013 tournament and delayed his comeback by February, the rest is history with the Spaniard winning a total of 10 titles including two Grand Slam titles (French Open, US Open) and five ATP Masters 1000 titles. He finished the season as world number one.

“The challenge in 2014 will be to win Australian,” said Toni Nadal. “Because, it would achieve something (that) only Rod Laver did, which is twice winning the four (Grand Slams).

“I do not put Rafael on a pedestal because it’s my family, although I know that he is one of the best ever,” he continued.

Nadal won his lone title in Melbourne back in 2009 when he defeated Swiss tennis star Roger Federer in a blockbuster final.
