Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams named ITF World Champions 2013

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic and American Serena Williams have been named as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Champions for the year 2013. This is the third straight year that Djokovic secured the men’s award while Serena Williams got the award for the fourth time.

Djokovic had a stellar season highlighted with a third consecutive title victory at the Australian Open (fourth overall) and finished runner up at the Wimbledon and US Open tournaments. He reached the semifinals of Roland Garros where he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. He ended the season ranked number 2 with 7 titles won in total for 2013.

32-year old Serena Williams won a total of 11 titles including 2 Grand Slam titles (French Open, US Open) in 2013. She finished the season as the top-ranked player for the first time since 2009 and accumulated more than $12 million in prize money for 2013 alone.

The men’s doubles world champions title were given to American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan for the tenth time while Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci of Italy were awared the women’s doubles world champions title.
