Rafael Nadal collects nearly $10 million during week-long South American exhibition matches – report

Swiss daily Blick reported that world number one Rafael Nadal received nearly $10 million just for playing in a series of exhibition matches in South America in one week.

The Latin American series took the Spaniard to Lima, Peru where he played against compatriot David Ferrer. He then proceeded to Chile where competed against world number two Novak Djokovic and in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he played against David Nalbandian and Djokovic.

This is remarkably a large amount considering that during the entire run of the 2013 season, Nadal played 82 matches and won 10 titles and accumulated a total of $12,070,935. Nadal was in Necker Island for an exhibition event for business mogul Richard Branson although it was for free.

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer also attended a series of exhibition events in South America last year and netted about $12 million.
