Rafael Nadal to play at Sony Open 2014 Miami Masters

World number one Rafael Nadal confirmed that he will be participating at the Sony Open 2014 Miami Masters which runs from March 17 to 30. The Spaniard famously opted to skip the event this year after winning the title at Indian Wells.

“I was very disappointed that I was not able to attend last year’s tournament and am looking forward to returning in 2014,” he said in a statement. “I love to play in Miami because of its beautiful location and tremendous fans support. Miami is an international city, and the diverse crowds that attend the tournament create an unbelievable atmosphere. I am excited to see all my fans in Miami this year.”

Nadal will have a slightly different schedule in 2014, with the Spaniard opting not to play in Chile, his first tournament since his comeback. He reached the final in Viña del Mar in his first outing but lost to Horacio Zeballos. He has signed up for the new ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro but it remains to be seen whether he will participate in other Latin American tournaments in Buenos Aires and Acapulco.
