Roger Rasheed believes Serena Williams will conquer Australian Open 2014

Popular coach Roger Rasheed thinks that current world number one Serena Williams will almost certainly win the women’s singles title at the Australian Open 2014 tournament, that is, if she remains fully fit for the Grand Slam event.

“It’s awfully hard to go past Serena if she’s firing and 100 per cent fit,” Rasheed said in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald. “She has a lot of assets the other women don’t have, especially on that stage.”

Rasheed is currently coaching ATP player Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, the current beau of Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova. He added that Sharapova is the only one who he thinks can beat Williams in the event.

“The only one who can beat Serena at the Australian Open is Maria Sharapova,” he said. “Maria has also got some weapons that can hurt Serena; the big thing will be whether she’s had enough match play. She’s been out with her shoulder injury and we’ll see how it holds up.

“That’s the only other legitimate challenger for the women’s event.”
