Shoulder injury forces Wozniacki out of Brisbane International

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki has withdrawn her participation at this week’s Brisbane International due to a shoulder injury. The 10th-ranked player was scheduled to meet Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia in the opening round but the Danish star incurred the shoulder injury a couple of days ago while practicing.

Despite the setback on her 2014 campaign, Wozniacki is optimistic that she’s ready to compete at the Sydney International which starts a week after. She said that she feels pain when attempting to serve but the shoulder scan showed no significant damage.

“Right now, I just need some good physio treatment and my head is still in Sydney,” Wozniacki said. “I’ve been working really hard and well during the off season and I wanted to start the year well, which is why I made the decision to withdraw from here because there wasn’t a reason to make it worse. But I still feel confident about the season and want to be able to play at 100 percent when I start.”
