Slovak Dominik Hrbaty signs on as Turkey Davis Cup coach, awaits ITF approval

Retired tennis player Dominik Hrbaty of Slovak Republic has reportedly signed a three-year deal to become the Davis Cup captain of Turkey. However, despite the agreement, he will still wait for the approval by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The ITF will determine whether they’ll allow a Davis Cup team to be coached by someone from another country.

The former world number 14 will also be working with the Turkish Federation in terms of taking other coaching roles. Hrbaty was gunning for a post within the Slovak Tennis Federation but both parties were unable to come to an agreement.

Hrbaty led Slovak Republic to its first Davis Cup final in 2005 with his 6-1 win loss record in the event that year. His team lost to Croatia 3-2. He won both his singles matches in the final against Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic.
