Stanislas Wawrinka open to compete with Roger Federer at 2016 Rio Olympics

World number eight Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland said that it would be fantastic to compete with Roger Federer at the 2016 Rio Olympics tennis doubles event if given the opportunity. The two Swiss stars competed as a team at Beijing Olympics back in 2008 and won the gold medal in doubles.

In an interview with DNA, an Indian daily, Wawrinka said: “2016 is still pretty far away. But of course it would be great if Roger and myself could play doubles together again. The gold medal in Beijing is still the most important success in my career and a treasured moment.”

Wawrinka said that his goal for the 2014 season is to at least reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal. He exceeded expectations in 2013 when he reached the semifinals of the US Open back in September.

“I want do well and make it to another quarterfinal. You don’t have to take anything for granted. It would be arrogant to say that I want to reach a final because I reached a semifinal this year. I want to go as far as possible and I would love to do very well again.”
