Tommy Robredo awarded Player of the Year by Spanish tennis writers

World number 18 Tommy Robredo received the Player of the Year award presented by the Spanish Tennis Writers Association (APT) during the event staged in Barcelona.

Robredo’s career surged in 2013 after overcoming two years of injury. He won two titles at the Grand Prix Hassan II and at the Vegeta Croatia Open Umag.

The Spaniard reached the quarterfinals of the French Open earlier this year and reached the fourth round of the US Open back in September after ending a 10-match winning streak against Roger Federer.

The Most Improved Player Award went to Pablo Carreno Busta who ranking rose more than 600 spots to 64 by the end of the season.

Former world number three Sergi Brugera, the two-time French Open titlist (1993-1994), became an honorary member of the association. Bruguera will coach Richard Gasquet next season.
