Li Na successfully defends Shenzhen Open title

China’s number one Li Na successfully defended the Shenzhen Open title on Saturday after she defeated countrywoman Shuai Peng 6-4, 7-5 in a match that lasted an hour and 49 minutes. This is her eighth career title and the first since hoisting the trophy in the same event a year ago.

This is also the second all-Chinese WTA title. Li was also in the first final back in Oeiras in 2006 but had to retire from her match against Zheng Jie. This time, the result was different.

Peng has yet to win a WTA singles title. She is now 0-6 in finals.

The doubles event was won by Monica Niculescu and Klara Zakopalova.
