Defending champions Novak Djokovic and Victoria Williams were the number two seeds.
David Ferrer, Andy Murray and Juan Martin del Potro wrap up the top five in the men’s side. 17-time Grand Slam titlist Roger Federer is seeded sixth.
Maria Sharapova, Li Na, Agnieszka Radwanska and Petra Kvitova round up the top six in the women’s side.
Two players that would have been seeded in Melbourne have pulled out prior to the tournament. 29th-ranked Jurgen Melzer withdrew due to left shoulder injury while 18th-seed Maria Kirilenko bowed out due to left knee injury.
