Newly-crowned Australian Open 2014 champion Stanislas Wawrinka revealed that his good friend and compatriot Roger Federer was the first one who called him after he defeated Rafael Nadal to win his first career Grand Slam title.
“He called me straight away to congratulate me. Roger was going crazy—he was so happy,” Wawrinka said to the media. “He has been in that situation so many times so he knows the feeling and he was delighted. He is my first supporter, he is always there.”
Switzerland now has two active players to have won at least one Grand Slam title, which is a first in the men’s tour.
