We’ve read a number of injuries related to tennis but we rarely get to know about this one. Former world number one Andy Roddick is making his debut in the Champions Series and got a greeting that no one would have wanted.
During his match against Mark Philippoussis in Birmingham, the latter served a ferocious serve towards Roddick and what came afterwards was “awkward”, as Roddick would put it.
“It was awkward,” said Roddick. “That hurt. It really did.”
Roddick would eventually win the semifinal encounter and went on to win the title after defeating John McEnroe in the final later that day.
The 31-year old American retired from professional tennis after the US Open 2012 tournament.
