Australian Open 2014 champion Stanislas Wawrinka secures endorsement deal with Subaru

Australian Open 2014 champion Stanislas Wawrinka has reportedly secured a lucrative endorsement deal with Subaru Switzerland. Though this development just came out recently, the current world number three had been in negotations with the auto maker for several months now before finally signing up the contract in December 2013, just a month before his stunning run to his maiden Grand Slam title in Melbourne.

The financial terms of the agreement has not been disclosed.

“I am selective in choosing partners,” Wawrinka said in a statement. “They need to be good for me, just like Subaru.”

Wawrinka has a respectable number of endorsements, understandably lesser than the more popular compatriot Roger Federer. However, his Australian Open win might just open more lucrative opportunities for the 28-year old. His current endorsements include Yonex, BCV, Fromm, Audemars Piguet and Visilab.

Other ATP stars having deals with carmakers include Federer (Mercedes), Rafael Nadal (Kia) and Novak Djokovic (Peugeot). WTA stars snagging deals with carmakers include Sabine Lisicki (Peugeot), Maria Sharapova (Porsche) and Li Na (Mercedes).
