Jelena Jankovic dreams of winning a Grand Slam title someday

Former top-ranked Jelena Jankovic admitted that she’s still dreaming of winning a Grand Slam singles title someday. The Serbian tennis superstar has reached a Grand Slam final at the 2008 US Open but lost to Serena Williams 6-4, 7-5.

“I’m not really a person who looks at other players and what they’ve done, what they’ve achieved. It’s more about what I can do myself or what I can achieve in my career,” she said to the journalists in Dubai this week. “You don’t have to prove anything to anyone. You’re playing the sport because you love the sport. You challenge yourself and prove to yourself that you can achieve certain things in your career.

“I think I’ve done quite a lot and my goal, my dream is to win one Grand Slam. But even if it doesn’t happen, it’s not the end of the world. I’ve been a finalist, I’ve been so many times a semifinalist. But I would like to do that, so I would like to make that one more step and have that under my belt.”

Jankovic is scheduled to meet Serena Williams in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships this week.
