Juan Martin Del Potro doesn’t want to play against Roger Federer

World number five Juan Martin Del Potro, forced to retire from his opening round match at this week’s Dubai Tennis Championships, admitted that among the players on tour he doesn’t want to compete against Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer.

“I don’t like to play against Federer because we’re friends and he has a really tough game. He plays drop shots, slices and I don’t like that kind of game. He’s very smart and he likes to play against me. If I can take another big name I would take one of them for sure,” the Argentine said in a report from Sports 360.

The Argentine said that his goal for this 2014 season is to remain in the world’s top ten and make deep runs in Grand Slam tournaments. However, his latest debacle regarding his left wrist injury might hamper his chances for the rest of the season. For now, he plans to return to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for further medical consultation on the injury.
