Marin Cilic continues impressive 2014 run, wins Delray Beach Open title

Croatia’s Marin Cilic won his 18th match win of the season on Sunday and in the process won the Delray Beach Open 2014 title. Cilic defeated former event winner Kevin Anderson in a match that lasted three hours and eight minutes 7-6, 6-7, 6-4.

This is Cilic’s second title in three weeks. Last weekend, he lost in the final of the ATP 500 ABN Amro tournament in Rotterdam but that didn’t dampen his spirits.

“It feels awesome, especially after waiting for a long time last night and finishing after 1am,” Cilic said. “Then, today to come back and win it, I’m really happy with this victory.”

Cilic goes home with $81,500 in prize money plus 250 ranking points which will further increase his ranking to number 25 on Monday. Anderson goes home with $42,920 and 150 ranking points.

Top-ranked doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan claimed a hat trick of titles in this tournament after eliminating Frantisek Cermak and Mikhail Elgin 6-2, 6-3 in the final.
