Novak Djokovic almost retired from tennis back in 2010?

World number two Novak Djokovic made an admission that he almost retired from professional tennis back in 2010, a year prior to his majestic run at the top of the rankings which made him a force to reckon with in the sport.

“At the beginning of 2010. Wanted to quit tennis!”, Djokovic said in a Serbian daily. “The ability to get hold of the first places in the world. Knew I had to beat Rafa and Roger that come in the first place, I won Wimbledon, that was my goal.”

Back then, Djokovic only had one Grand Slam title (the 2008 Australian Open) and was also ridiculed for having made several retirements in Grand Slam matches due to health reasons. The Serbian underwent a gluten-free diet late in 2010 and would then credit the change to have helped him become a different and better player as evidenced by the results from 2011 onwards.
