World number one Rafael Nadal has officially confirmed that he will be taking part of the Miami Masters 2014 Sony Open event in March. Nadal skipped the ATP Masters 1000 event a year ago following his victory at Indian Wells.
The Miami Masters is just one of the few ATP Masters 1000 event Nadal has not won. He won five Masters events in 2013 (Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, Montreal and Cincinnati).
This year’s event will feature a star-studded field including Novak Djokovic and last year’s finalists David Ferrer and Andy Murray (who would go on to win the title), and the return of Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer who also skipped the event in 2013.
Reigning Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka will be getting increased interest in the event as he’s currently the world number three.
The Sony Open takes place from March 17 to 30.
