Roger Federer, Andy Murray currently ranked outside of world’s top 6

It’s quite surprising to see tennis superstars Roger Federer and Andy Murray are out of the world’s top five this week, a first in several years.

Federer and Murray were the two most recent champions of the Wimbledon tournament but with the consistent performances of Spaniard’s David Ferrer and Juan Martin del Potro last season and the meteoric rise of another Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka for winning the Australian Open last month, the aforementioned two Slam champions were relegated out of the elite top five.

As of this week (February 17 onwards), Murray is ranked seventh while Roger Federer remains in eighth place. Both players will be itching to get much needed ranking points as they return to tennis action next week. Federer will be at the Dubai Tennis Championships where he’s a five-time champion while Murray goes to Acapulco and hopefully perform better than his recent tournaments.
