Roger Federer commits participation in Davis Cup 2014 quarterinals vs Kazakhstan

World number eight Roger Federer confirmed that he will be participating in the upcoming Davis Cup 2014 quarterfinal rubber vs Kazakhstan in April. Federer surprised everyone when he made a last-minute decision to take part in last weekend’s opening round rubber versus Serbia with Australian Open 2014 champion Stanislas Wawrinka. The duo won their singles matches to help secure the victory for Switzerland.

The Swiss team was undeniably the favorites to win against Serbia last weekend as the latter lacked Novak Djokovic, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki.

This is Switzerland’s first Davis Cup World Group quarterfinal outsing since 2004. The European nation has yet to win this event with its best finish coming from a runner-up showing back in 1992 where they lost to the United States.

Federer posted this announcement on Twitter last Monday: “Joining my friends, captain Seve and STAN against KazakhSTAN in April! #atmosphere #loud #fans #cowbells #switzerland #loveit”
