Rotterdam tournament director Krajicek believes Del Potro will participate in ATP 500 event next week

Richard Krajicek, a former tennis player who’s now the Tournament Director for the ATP 500 Rotterdam tournament, said that he’s confident that world number four Juan Martin Del Potro will be participating in the indoor event next week. This following the withdrawal of Australian Open 2014 champion Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland. World number 11 Milos Raonic’s participation is now clouded in doubt following an ankle injury sustained during the Davis Cup last weekend.

”Del Potro is fine, he’s arriving in the Netherlands on Saturday to train, so I’m very happy,” said Krajicek.

He understood Wawrinka’s withdrawal but admitted that he did not expect this announcement to come about when the tournament is about to start.

“But I understand it at all, as a former pro. You win not matches not only on the court, but you also win them by taking intelligent decisions. If he plays on, the next thing you know he’s out for a few months. It would be good for us if he came to play – but it would not be good for his long-term career.”
