World number one Serena Williams accepts Dubai Tennis 2014 wildcard

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2014 will have world number one Serena Williams in its draw after the American accepted a last-minute wildcard in this prestigious event. This means seven out of the world’s top ten players are going to play in the event which begins on Monday.

Williams has not participated in Dubai since 2009 where she lost in the semifinals to older sister Venus. The Williams sisters are in the draw after Venus also accepted a wildcard into the event.

It makes sense for Williams to accept a wild card in the event as she doesn’t have a lot of match play in the next couple of weeks. She pulled out of this week’s Qatar Open due to back injury and has already confirmed that she won’t be participating at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. She will proceed to the Miami Open following the Middle Eastern swing.

Williams has not won the Dubai event and will be raring to add the silverware to her collection.
