Dominika Cibulkova advances to Sony Open 2014 Miami semifinals, assured of world top 10 debut

Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova is now assured a debut in the world’s top ten after she reached the semifinals of the Premier Mandatory Sony Open 2014 tournament in Miami. Cibulkova saved three match points on her way to a victory against world number three Agnieszka Radwanska 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.

“This win really means a lot to me,” Cibulkova said during the on-court interview. “It’s always tough to play Aga, but I knew I just had to stay aggressive. If you make some mistakes with Aga you still have to stay aggressive. That’s the way I play, and it’s the only way to beat her. I just had to keep going.”

“I knew before the match that this was the match I needed to win to become Top 10,” she said. “So it was some more pressure, but I’m obviously very happy with the way I handled it today.”

Up next for Cibulkova is world number two Li Na who eliminated 11th seed Caroline Wozniacki in the other quarterfinal.
