Gastroenteritis forces Tomas Berdych out of Miami Masters, Rafael Nadal advances to final

In yet another bizarre turn of events, the second scheduled semifinal match at the Miami Masters 2014 tournament won’t take place as Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych announced that he had to pull out of the match due to enteritis. This gave world number one Rafael Nadal a free pass to the Miami Masters 2014 final and will face three-time champion Novak Djokovic for the title.

Earlier in the day, Djokovic also advanced to the final without breaking a sweat as Japan’s Kei Nishikori had to pull out due to a left groin injury.

“Very sorry to say that I have to pull out today. Very disappointed and I am obviously very sorry for any fans that wanted to come out for this match,” Nishikori said in his Facebook page.

“This tournament is very special to me and look forward to coming back in the years to come. I will work with my medical team to be back healthy as soon as possible.”

The Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic Miami Masters 2014 final is slated on Sunday, March 30.
