John Isner, Ernests Gulbis to square off in Indian Wells quarterfinals

American John Isner and Latvian Ernests Gulbis will square off in the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open 2014 Indian Wells after both recorded three set victories against their fourth round opponents.

Twelfth-seed Isner produced 10 aces to outlast 30th seed Fernando Verdasco 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in a match that lasted nearly two hours. Isner is a former runner-up at this ATP Masters 1000 event back in 2012 where he lost to Roger Federer.

Gulbis advanced earlier in the day after a thrilling 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 win over Roberto Bautista Agut in a match that lasted two hours and 24 minutes. Gulbis is having a fruitful 2014 season which saw him win the Open 13 title at Marseille last month. He also defeated Bautista Agut en route to the title in the French city.
