Li Na outlasts Wozniacki at Sony Open 2014 Miami, to face Cibulkova in semis

World number two Li Na produced 31 winners to defeat Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals of the Sony Open Tennis 2014 on Wednesday 7-5, 7-5. Up next for the Chinese tennis superstar is Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.

“I was playing more aggressively tonight,” Li said during the on-court interview. “But I also just saw the information on the TV screen up there – I had a lot of unforced errors in the match.

“But thanks to everyone for coming here to support us. I’m looking forward to the semifinals.”

Cibulkova eliminated world number three Agnieszka Radwanska in a nail-biting match which featured the former saving three match points to make it through. The victory assured Cibulkova a place in the world’s top 10 for the first time.

“She’s a tough opponent,” Li said of Cibulkova. “It’ll be a replay of the Australian Open final, but this will be different. The last couple of months we’ve both improved a lot, and it’ll be a very tough match tomorrow.”
