Novak Djokovic advances to Miami Masters final following Nishikori’s semifinal pullout

World number two Novak Djokovic advanced to the final of the Miami Masters 2014 following the withdrawal of Kei Nishikori of Japan prior to their scheduled semifinal match today. Nishikori cited a left groin injury as the reason for the pullout.

Djokovic, a three-time champion at this ATP Masters 1000 event, will face either world number one Rafael Nadal or Tomas Berdych in the title match slated on Sunday.

The Serbian tennis star could achieve a second Indian Wells-Miami double should he win the title on Sunday.

“Very sorry to say that I have to pull out today. Very disappointed and I am obviously very sorry for any fans that wanted to come out for this match,” Nishikori wrote on his official Facebook page.

“This tournament is very special to me and look forward to coming back in the years to come. I will work with my medical team to be back healthy as soon as possible.”

Nishikori advanced to the semifinals following a surprise victory over two-time champion Roger Federer in the quarterfinals.
