Rafael Nadal wins Laureus World Comeback of the Year AWard

World number one Rafael Nadal was announced as the Laureus World Comeback of the Year awardee at a ceremony conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday. This is the Spaniard’s third Laureus award. He was also a nominee for the Sportsman of the Year Award but it was Formula One racing driver Sebastian Vettel who won the honors.

The award was definitely well-deserved for Nadal, who made an impressive return after a seven-month injury layoff in February 2013. He would go on to win 10 titles in total including 2 Grand Slam titles (French Open, US Open) and five ATP Masters 1000 trophies. He ended the year as world number one for the third time.

Nadal won the Laureus Sport of the Year award in 2011 and the Newcomer of the Year award in 2006.

The Spaniard was unable to attend the ceremony since he’s currently in Florida for the Miami Masters 2014 tournament where he’s still competing.

Brothers Mike and Bob Bryan were nominated in the Laureus World Team of the Year category but the award went to Bayern Munich football club.
