Roger Federer advances to Indian Wells 2014 quarterfinals, beats good friend Haas

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer reached the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells for the ninth time in his career on Wednesday after he defeated good friend Tommy Haas 6-4, 6-4. Up next for the Swiss Maestro is Kevin Anderson of South Africa who prevented an all-Swiss matchup by defeating Stanislas Wawrinka in three sets. This will be the second meeting between Anderson and Federer with their first encounter taking place at the Paris Masters last season where Federer won.

“I have to come out and focus on my game and just do what I have been doing,” said Anderson about the upcoming match. “I feel like I have been playing good tennis, and I’m going to definitely continue that tomorrow.”

Federer is a four-time champion in this ATP Masters 1000 event. He’s currently enjoying a nine-match winning streak following his title victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships more than a week ago.

“I know how tough he is,” Federer said of Anderson. “He’s the best here usually in the States, outdoors on the hard courts. That’s when he’s had his biggest success. I’m aware that this is not going to be an easy match just because he’s not ranked in the Top 10.”
