Roger Federer beats Novak Djokovic to earn Dubai Tennis Championships 2014 final berth

Roger Federer convincingly defeated Novak Djokovic for the first time in nearly two years in the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships 2014 tournament. The five-time champion at this event, Federer edged the four time and defending champion Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted an hour and 46 minutes.

The last time Federer has beaten Djokovic was in the final of the Cincinnati Masters back in 2012. In the process, the Swiss Maestro delayed Djokovic’s quest for a 550th career match win at the ATP Tour. Federer is now 17-15 against Djokovic in their head to head series.

The 32-year old tennis superstar will attempt to win his 78th ATP-level title on Saturday as he faces third-seed and last year’s runner-up Tomas Berdych.

Djokovic is attempting to win his first title of the 2014 season. He was not able to defend the Australian Open title last month where he lost to the quarterfinals to eventual champion Stanislas Wawrinka.
