Roger Federer looks forward to the European tennis season

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer is very pleased so far of his performance this season and he’s now looking forward to the European tennis season after a surprise defeat at the Miami Masters quarterfinals on Wednesday to Japan’s Kei Nishikori.

“[I feel] good overall,” said Federer. “If I look at the big picture since the beginning of the year, I’m very pleased with how I’m playing.”

“Today in the cold it was also a good test, for my back and my body,” he added. “It was no problem, even though I do feel very different now because it was quite cool out on the court.”

Federer has a 22-4 win loss record so far this season. He reached the finals at Brisbane International and Indian Wells, semifinals at Australian Open and won the Dubai Tennis Championships title/

“It’s a good start to the season, no doubt. I want to keep it up now for Geneva when I play next week.”

Federer will be playing for Switzerland in the Davis Cup quarterfinals versus Kazakhstan next week. He will be joined by Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka. Switzerland has yet to win the Davis Cup title.

Federer said that he might take a break after Wimbledon since his wife, Mirka, is expected to give birth in July this year.

“Last year was a nice change with Hamburg and Gstaad. I don’t think I will do that again this year, but we will see what I’ll be able to play, depending on my wife.”

“I’m going to look forward to [playing in] Europe in general.”
