Roger Federer returns to world’s top five after advancing to Indian Wells semifinals

Swiss tennis superstar Roger Federer is assured to make a return in the world’s top five after reaching the BNP Paribas Open 2014 Indian Wells semifinals on Thursday after he defeated Kevin Anderson of South Africa 7-5, 6-1. The match lasted a little more than an hour. The Swiss Maestro will next face Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine on Saturday.

Federer entered the ATP Masters 1000 event as world number eight but he’s assured of the world number five ranking and could go as high as world number four if he wins his fifth Indian Wells title on Sunday.

The Swiss star is currently riding a nine-match win streak and has not dropped a set so far in this tournament. The only player left in the draw that’s ranked higher than him is world number two Novak Djokovic who’s on the other side of the draw.

“Last year I wasn’t quite [healthy] for most of the year,” Federer said. “So then I can’t also expect so much from myself. But then when I do feel good again, this is kind of what I expect from myself. It’s nice proving it to myself and the team and my fans that they can still count on me. It’s nice giving yourself opportunities to win a tournament, no doubt about that.”
