Roger Federer, Stanislas Wawrinka team up for Indian Wells 2014 doubles

Good friends and Swiss tennis stars Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka will be teaming up in doubles at this week’s BNP Paribas Open 2014 Indian Wells.

Federer and Wawrinka don’t play doubles regularly but they are a formidable team. They won the Olympic gold in doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This will be their first partnership since the 2012 Davis Cup World Grou Play offs.

The duo will have a challenging opening round as they are scheduled to meet sixth-seed Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi who happens to be the winners of the doubles event at the Dubai Tennis Championships last week. Federer won the singles title in Dubai.

Other top singles players signing up for doubles are Novak Djokovic who will team up with Filip Krajinovic and Ernests Gulbis pairing with Milos Raonic. Juan Martin Del Potro will pair up with Marin Cilic, Andy Murray joins forces with Jonathan Marray and Frenchmen Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be pairing up with Jonathan Erlich and Nicolas Mahut respectively.

Wawrinka and Federer reached the Indian Wells final back in 2011 but lost to Xavier Malisse and Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The top seeds of the BNP Paribas Open 2014 Indian Wells doubles event are the Mike and Bob Bryan.
