Victoria Azarenka may not compete at Sony Open 2014 Miami

World number four Victoria Azarenka said she might not be competing at the Sony Open 2014 Miami tournament, which begins in less than two weeks, following her surprise opening round loss at the BNP Paribas Open 2014 Indian Wells on Friday. American Lauren Davis ousted the two-time Australian Open champion 6-0, 7-6 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Azarenka said that she’s not yet sure whether she will be healthy enough to compete in Miami, another Premier-level event which she won in 2009.

“It’s tough to say, because, you know, this problem that I have is something that is not so easy to get rid of.” Azarenka missed Premier-level events in Doha and Dubai due to left foot injury that required her to wear a walking boot for three weeks. This prevented her from having enough practice time for Indian Wells and she admitted that she may have competed too soon that she would have wanted.
