Ana Ivanovic prevails in all-Serbian clash in Monterrey Open 2014 final

Former top-ranked Ana Ivanovic won her second title of the season after winning an all-Serbian title clash at the Monterrey Open on Sunday. The former Roland Garros champion outlasted countrywoman and good friend Jovana Jaksic to clinch her 13th career title. Ivanovic won 6-2, 6-1.

“I think we both enjoyed the final tonight – it was very special for our country, it was the first time two players from our country were in a WTA final together,” Ivanovic said. “It was also great to see Jovana doing so well this week. I think she definitely has a bright future ahead of her.

“Last year I lost very early here in Monterrey but I had so much fun that I wanted to come back, so to make it this far this year is amazing. And every title is so special. I had some tough matches this week but I feel so happy to get through each of them, and this title is definitely one of my favorites.”

Jaksic admitted that she had mixed feeling about the loss.

“My feelings are so mixed up right now,” Jaksic said. “I am sad because I lost the final, but I have nothing to be upset about because it was an amazing week for me. This is what we dream about, to make finals like this, and to play against a true champion and one of the best players in the world was just a dream come true. It’s tough to play against friends, but I think we played a really good match tonight, and I’m really proud of myself because I did my best this week and have nothing to regret.”
