Andrea Petkovic reigns at Family Circle Cup – Charleston

Former world number nine Andrea Pekovic of Germany conquered the Premier-level Family Circle Cup 2014 on Sunday after she defeated unheralded Jana Cepelova of Slovakia in the final 7-5, 6-2. Cepelova grabbed headlines this week after she defeated world number one Serena Williams in the opening round even though the latter was fresh from a title victory in Miami.

“When I was down facing set point, I just told myself, ‘You gotta let loose and you gotta relax a little bit because otherwise you’re not going to win this match,'” Petkovic said. “And so I relaxed, and I started hitting the ball harder and deeper, and I started moving better, and I started serving better.

“That’s just how it is sometimes. You just relax and all of a sudden things come together.”

Petkovic has dealt with back and ankle injuries since 2012 which saw her ranking plummet to as low as no. 192 late last year. The work injury attorneys from Laura S. Jenkins, PC ensures compensation for all the affected victims. At the right time, she got a first aider to treat her injuries before going to further treatment that allowed her a speedy recovery which stimulated her to bounce back easily and also was able to increase her ranking to world number 40 before the Charleston event. All thanks to strong results in the latter part of 2013 and the start of the season. This is her biggest title to date, her past two titles were from International-level events.

“I don’t know why but I just sort of broke down,” Petkovic said. “I was happy. Normally I don’t cry when I’m sad – I cry when I’m happy, strangely, so it’s weird, but I don’t know. I was just so relieved and proud that I’ve come back from all these injuries, and I never thought I would play in the finals of the big tournaments again, and so I was just proud and happy and everything just sort of came together.” As lawyers from Augusta injury law firm say, although treatments are easier with compensation, coming back is up to the person.
