Guillermo Garcia-Lopez wins Grand Prix Hassan II crown

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain defeated compatriot Marcel Granollers 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca, Morocco on Sunday.

“I’m very happy to win this title,” said Garcia-Lopez. “I know Marcel for a long time. We practise together in tournaments. The match was really close.”

This is the Spaniard’s third title and first since his win in Bangkok, Thailand back in 2010. He went home with $77,315 plus 250 ranking points.

As runner-up, Granollers takes home $40,720 in prize money and 140 ranking points.

“It was a tough match for both,” said Granollers. “I think we played solid and I made a few mistakes. I didn’t deserve to win the title…It was a big battle today and unfortunately I didn’t win the match.

“I’m happy with the week. I won three matches. I go to Monte-Carlo with confidence and I will try to play like (I did) this week.”
